The year is coming to an end, time for a brief review and a look ahead to next year. Thanks in part to you as a good relationship, it was another special year for us. Special Cargo thanks you for placing your trust in us and hopes to continue the fine cooperation with you next year. Together we make the logistics world safer!
Various anniversaries
This year we were able to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our operating branch, Special Cargo Services. Founded in 1998 by Huib den Dikken with business partner Hans van der Maat, we have since grown into an international full-service organization in dangerous goods logistics. Ten years ago, Erik took over from his father. But with a mandate: expanding and broadening services is good, but maintain good care for client and employee. An important message that is in our DNA.
Special Cargo College – the training arm of Special Cargo – also had an anniversary this year, although somewhat more modest: training was first provided at the Schiphol-Rijk and Spijkenisse locations five years ago.
Certification ISO 9001:2015
Another milestone this year was achieving our (re)certification for ISO 9001:2015. This certificate demonstrates that we provide products and services that meet our customers’ requirements and comply with laws and regulations. AND that our goal is to increase our customer satisfaction. We are proud to meet all these requirements for this very important ISO certification. For us, it just reaffirms what we stand for and continue to stand for as an organization: commitment, safety and quality of service.
Customs warehouse
Then there were all sorts of developments at the various sites. We name a few. The Services location at Schiphol Airport has begun its new function as a customs warehouse. This means that our customers can now go there for storage of imported goods from outside the EU for which no import duties or other levies need to be paid. In IJmuiden it was already possible – as an important link in the logistics of our overseas customers. And in the Europoort, we started storing gas cylinders. The latter we hope to expand further in the coming year.
Knowledge sessions
At College, we hosted a number of knowledge sessions for our clients on relevant legislative changes. For example, the introduction of the IATA competency-based training method, and the impact of the new PGS 37-2 on the many companies that store lithium batteries. New e-learnings were introduced, and training courses were (also) translated into English, according to our customers’ needs. We also took our customers through the mandatory transition BAL (Security Advisor Air Freight) to Security Manager/Supervisor. This transition is not yet complete, so in this we will continue to keep you informed.
Special Cargo is ready for you!
In the new year, all our colleagues at Schiphol, IJmuiden and Europoort – and in Houston (USA) – are once again ready to help you with the safe logistics of your dangerous goods. And at Schiphol-Rijk, Spijkenisse and Veenendaal, of course, we’d love to see you again for dangerous goods training, aviation security or security. Our consultants are also happy to assist you again in the implementation of your logistics process.
