Working with dry ice poses a variety of risks to workers. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, employers are required to protect their staff from this by making employees aware of the dangers. For that purpose, Special Cargo has developed the e-learning “Working safely with dry ice. Complicated? Not at all. In 1 to 2 hours you will learn how to work with this hazardous substance. Until September 1, you can book this course for the introductory price of €30.

Dry ice is basically frozen CO2. One of its main applications is keeping products, such as vaccines and food products, chilled or frozen. Exposure to dry ice has several hazards: suffocation, freezing and pressure buildup (possibly resulting in explosion). Therefore, there are special rules for their transportation and storage.

ADR

For example, ADR – the regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods by road – requires dry ice to be transported in a specially made container, in a well-ventilated loading area. Persons involved in this process must be trained for the responsibilities associated with their work. For example, by taking the e-learning Safe Working with Dry Ice.
So are requirements for the storage and transportation of dry ice by air.

Being a good employer

Article 5 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act states that activities that may pose a risk to employees must be included in the Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E). And that the employer should take steps to minimize existing risks. You’ll learn all these things in the Safe Working with Dry Ice e-learning. This is how you as an employer give substance to being a good employer.

E-learning for introductory price

Should everyone then go through complicated training? Definitely not! This e-learning will teach you everything you need to know in 1 to 2 hours to work safely with dry ice in practice. At the end of the e-learning, you will be given a series of questions to check that you are sufficiently familiar with the risks of dry ice.

Until September 1, the training can still be booked for the introductory price of €30 euros per e-learning; after that, the price becomes €50.
