Six weeks to go and the time has come: on July 1, the new way of training will be introduced in the transport of dangerous goods by air. Aviation organizations ICAO and IATA call it Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBTA). In Dutch, we say competentie-gericht trainen. That sounds very nice, but what exactly will it mean for businesses? At Special Cargo at least a shorter training time. As the first CBTA-accredited training provider in the Netherlands, we can tell you all about it.

Questions …

Competency-based training means training for the tasks and responsibilities that go with your job. In the training structure, the existing IATA DGR categories 1 through 12 are converted to function-based courses IATA 7.1 through 7.10. That transition may raise questions. What is expected of me as a manager? What will change for my employees, in the way they are trained? What does it mean for my organization, in terms of time and effectiveness? How do I ensure that my organization is and remains compliant? Are there security implications in our company?

… and answers

All sorts of questions, and Special Cargo has the answers. In that, we will take you through the coming time, so that on July 1 you will know what to expect. How do we do that?

  • Starting with an interview with Hans van der Maat, founder of SCS Training & Consultancy and closely involved in the development of the IATA CBTA methodology. In this article you will read the most important ins and outs of CBTA.
  • By introducing CBTA into our course offerings as soon as possible.
  • By informing our customers through newsletters, mailings and social media.
  • Our CBTA Knowledge Sessions: in June, we are hosting interactive sessions for clients, on the implementation of the IATA CBTA methodology.

Want to stay informed about all this and/or register for one of the IATA CBTA knowledge sessions? Then sign up now for our monthly newsletter and we’ll keep you informed. You can expect the next (IATA CBTA) edition early next week.
